GITHEAD BIOGRAPHY 2026
Githead are a super group of sorts. Its 4 piece lineup contains 2/5 of Minimal Compact (Malka Spigel & Max Franken) ¼ of Wire (Colin Newman) plus Robin Rimbaud (Scanner). The observant among you will then conclude it contains 100% of Immersion and you will be correct.
Formed in 2004 to play at an event to mark the swim ~ label’s 10th birthday the band went on to make 4 albums and an EP in the period up to 2014 touring across Europe but never touring the UK or USA.
Some bands have their moment, disappear and are never heard from again. Whereas some gain in fame (or is it infamy?) after their initial burst of activity. Githead are definite candidates for the 2nd category, often mentioned and missed amongst those in the know.
Cut to 2024 and 20 years after their initial formation and neatly 10 years after their last activity Githead gathered for the 2nd time in their history at the storied Rockfield studios in Monmouth, Wales for a week. In classic Githead style arriving with nothing more than their instruments and a few texts. In those 7 days a lot of material was recorded – literally jammed from thin air. Some great, some not so. But plenty for an album.
It’s been slow work sifting & refining especially with so much else going on and no deadline. However as these things often do a deadline has presented itself. In July 2027 Githead will play its first gig in 13 years at the inaugural
